Monadnock Regional Middle High School to Transition to Remote Learning for Two Days Following Positive COVID-19 Cases

SWANZEY — Superintendent Lisa A. Witte reports that the Monadnock Regional Middle High School will transition to fully remote learning for the next two days for grade 7-12 students following news of multiple COVID-19 cases.

As of Monday, May 17, there are seven positive cases of COVID-19, six of which are within the high school community, at Monadnock Regional Middle High School. Those individuals are self-isolating at home. School officials are also waiting on results from additional outstanding tests at this time.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school held an early release for students in grades 9 through 12 today. Bagged lunches were provided to the released students.

As school officials continue to investigate COVID-19 cases, remote classes will be held for students in grades 7 through 12 on Tuesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 19. Students are expected to return to in-person classes on Thursday, May 20.

District officials will continue to monitor the situation over the next two days and share any updates when additional information becomes available.

Those who have been identified as close contacts will be contacted by the school or local public health officials with further directions. If you are not contacted, you have not been identified as a close contact and do not have to quarantine.

“Having a vaccinated student body is one of the biggest steps that we can take as a community to prevent further spread of COVID-19, which in turn will help to minimize disruptions such as this from occurring again in the future,” said Superintendent Witte. “All high school-age and most middle-school-age students are eligible to be vaccinated and I encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to protect themselves and their classmates.”

All staff electing to be vaccinated have been fully vaccinated. High school-age students are also eligible to be vaccinated and are encouraged to do so in order to prevent future outbreaks. Students who wish to get vaccinated can register here.

The district would also like to remind community members that there’s a mask mandate in place within the Monadnock schools, and all individuals within the schools should continue to adhere to this mandate.

If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, chills, respiratory illness, aches or change in taste and smell, get a COVID-19 test and stay home until you receive your results. Testing can be done either through your primary healthcare provider or at one of the testing sites located throughout the state.

In addition, to prevent further spread of the disease in the community, the Monadnock Regional School District ask that students, families and staff take the following precautions to prevent the spread of the disease:

  • Stay home if you have a fever or are not feeling well. Students should stay home from school should any new or unexplained illness, no matter how mild, develop. This precaution is meant to keep all staff and students safe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid close contact with others. When outside your home, please adhere to social distancing guidelines and keep a distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others.
  • Wear a cloth face covering that covers your mouth and nose to protect others when in public areas.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
